The PROJECT that makes the PEOPLE ONE

We got a chance to chat with Brett from One People Project (www.onepeopleproject.com). Check out how 1 open mind and heart can lead to more then just a brand!

First to bat how did you come up with the name of your brand?

I basically wanted to create a brand that people from all walks of life could relate to and could become apart of. At the time I came up with One People Project I noticed many brands using skulls, guns, drugs, etc. as themes which is all good. Personally I couldn’t really connect with such themes. I wanted to use more positive themes that I could really connect with and use to build on. One People= One Love, and the Project is our way of bringing everyone together through a common interest in culture and clothing.

What were some goals that you have just put into fruition that you had as a child?

I have always been really stubborn and unfortunately haven’t learned how to really work for anyone. I realized this and instead of maturing and learning how to not always necessarily do things my way, I started my own company and now I have to compromise with my partner and brother but have the freedom do things my way. As a child I always wanted to own a company and do something I love, and now it is coming to fruition.

Is Elvis really dead?

Most likely, although Tupac is probably still alive.

What were you doing before you started your brand?

Valet Parking cars and school.

What are some of your personal inspirations now?

I really get inspired by people, culture and society. I love observing people and seeing what they do to reach the common goal of happiness or at least contentment.

What was your best science project that you did and what grade were you in?

The only science project I remember was in 5th or 6th grade and my dad and I ended up catching stuff on fire in my garage.

How was the transition from employee to owner? Did you face any particular problems?

The transition is great! I really like having to use my brain to figure out how to make things work, compared to working for an already structured business with monotonous tasks.

With your 20/20 hindsight glasses, what are some things that you would of done differently from your brands inception?

I probably would have gained more experience and created a formal plan. I started One People Project for fun and as it started to catch on we kind of just threw all caution to the wind and went for it. We probably would have avoided some speed bumps if we would have map quested our plan first.

Describe your childhood in one word?

Observational

What are some differentiating factors about your brand?

Our brand is extremely personal and run by a special bond between my brother and I. We created the brand based of a few themes that are important to both of us and ran with it. We do One People Project because we love it and hope that is shown in our product. We started with absolutely nothing but an idea and confidence in our selves and the rest has fallen into place.

If you were an animal, game cotroller or some other random object which would it be?

I would defiantly be a Playstation 3 controller. It’s well made, functional, and comfortable.

If I were an animal, I would be my Dog Rocco. I believe he is the dog version of myself.

Name five people that you would most like to meet?

Natalie Portman twice and my deceased grandmother on my fathers side three times.

What is something that a lot of people don't' know about you that you with more people could know?

I am 21 years old.

If you were not doing your own brand what would you be doing now?>

Most likely going to school full time, probably to be a psychologist or study philosophy.

What is the most interesting trip that you have taken?

I went to the Dominican Republic and visited many Haitian Refugee Villages throughout the Country. It was interesting to see their culture and observe the way they live day-to-day contrary to American culture and my life.

Explain your personal style?

Well I always wait to do laundry till the last minuet, so I usually just wear whatever shirt is least wrinkled and switch off between four pairs of Levi’s 511’s. Although that will soon change because we just got our first denim samples!

Outside of your brand what brands do you think are to be reckoned with?

Undefeated is an excellent example of good branding, Twelve Bar’s cut and sew is impressive, Coup De Grace graphic tees are always exciting, and Clae Shoes are beautiful.

Drop a jewel for the people about brand direction?

One People Project will become a complete collection including accessories, which will always be of high quality with a strong backbone of content and themes.
